so i am very new at anything linux. but i have started trying to use ubunutu 8.04 i installed it from xp to try it and so far im liking it enought to give it its own hd. so i try to install on a 80 gig sata drive from the cd it will boot to cd and start the install then within 2-3 mins after it starts to install my screen gets all messed up multi colored lines all over it and so far i cant get that to change. i cant even just run it as a live cd it does the same thing as during the install. i dont see any options for a safe video mode to install but i dont know much so yea.
any help would be great.

Hi and welcome, could you give us some system specs? Also there is a safe graphics option I believe with the F4 key.

Ok and check the cd for errors and Then you may want to do a checksum on the cd

ok so i finaly got it to install. it says everything is great and it is installed i go to boot from that drive and i get

67.585342 buffer i/o error on device fd0, logical block 0
79.727957 buffer i/o error on device fd0, logical block 0
105.030697 buffer i/o error on device fd0, logical block 0
117.173313 buffer i/o error on device fd0, logical block 0

then it trys to boot and says error 17 and that it cant mount the logical drive... or something like that. anyone got any ideas ?

i would love to start useing ubuntu at its full potential on its own drive.....:guitar:
