wacky looking menu screen in TF2

I'm using ubuntu hardy and the latest wine version. I installed the orange box with some difficulty, and updated and all that, but when I try to run TF2 I get this screen:

Though it looks cool, it makes it useless to navigate, and also incredibly slows down my computer. I had no problems running tf2 on this same laptop in windows xp. Any ideas how to fix this?

try setting the launch option to "-dxlevel 81" without the quotes.

This is probably the same as the HL2 problem, which is similar: you're probably missing the correct fonts. I forget what the font is that it requires, (tahoma?) but it's easy enough to find out. Go check out the HL2 page on appdb.winehq.org for more info. It'll be on there somewhere.
