Another *native* Linux game straight from the developer and not long after the Windows version, apparently their publisher wasn't interested in helping make it available which is why it took this long.

No word on the actual full client but while we're waiting for that we can try it. Good chance to support a developer that's willing to support us if you like it. I understand the game is a "stealth action game" similar to MGS or Splinter Cell.

Gave the game a shot but I guess my GeForce4 MX 4000 is too old. There is no uninstall feature of the packer... which was a bit annoying since I had to hunt down all the places the game was installed and remove them manually.

checkinstall is your friend.
sudo checkinstall bash coldwar_demo.run
installs the game, and makes it a nice convenient deb package to be added and removed at will

You see, that's why I love this place --- I learn something new everyday... now, if I can only remember this command when I really need it! :)

Yeah, it's a bit disappointing because the game looks awesome....I'll just have to wait till I can afford a better video card. :(

Could you imagine how money it would be if game developers released Linux versions for all their games???

Phew... I need a cold shower.

Looks can be decieving. I didn't think coldwar was all that great. And man, could the character move any slower!! Stealth does not = a snails pace.

I would play it if it were free. So the demo is all I will see of this game.

Well, you can speed up the movement with the mouse wheel and also sprint with control.

Personally, I haven't really decided on it yet. A couple of levels torn out from the middle of the game with no real instructions can always be confusing at first. I did notice that you couldn't shoot the lamps to make areas dark and wondered WTF was up with the radioactive fire extinguishers. Enemies also behaved differently to what I'm used to in these kind of games... Gotta try running from them when they go hiding behind the corner I guess.

Worked quite well on my old and slow machine with a GF4 Ti4200 & 1.8GHz Duron

Yeah I know you can sprint, but who ever walks that slow.

Have you ever played Splinter Cell? Now that is the original steath game that this one tries to copy. I guess I was so used to splinter cell that this one really had nothing to offer.

Not so much Splinter Cell, but more Metal Gear Solid. I wouldn't call SC really original as it pretty much copies MGS (not saying MGS is the first one either though, but at least the series dates back to the NES) adding a free camera. :P
