We all know that ubuntu 7.10 works good on a ps3, but we have no way to collaborate our console only devs and findings. I think with the increasing popularity of Playstation 3 sice its 80gb release, and because blu-ray won the format war over hd-dvd. We should definitley start a forum for ps3 ubuntu users only. I went over to yellow dogs forum site and they have a very big vommunity of ps3 only forums, actually Im quite surprised you didnt have one already, seeing as how commercail interst in ps3 linux installs has even led magazines like pc gamer and popular meachanics do tutorials on how easy and great ubuntu linux is on the ps3. Anywyas please respond people if you think this a great idea. there are many features i would like to see implemented on my ps3 like blu-ray support, wine support, wi-fi, and others. thank you.:)

This is a serious request. I am not posting for no reason. I really believe there needs to be a forum for us ubuntu 7.10 ps3 users. there are many of us (thousands who use ubuntu, and it seems to be the top choice for you tube. and other bloggers across the web who installed linux on there systems. Please give me some feedaback or if your not a mod voice your opinion. because i would like to see every facet of ubuntu being fully utilized on my machine. if there are more people using it. there will be motivation for more peole to dvelop it. thank you guys

Wow thats disheartening to say the least. thats too bad that ubuntu has the best/fastest linux for ps3 and cant even support it in there forums. I know alot of blogs put a timer on peoples images so that after 2 months or so there deleted. I feel like im stepping over my bounds, but there still isnt a reasonable soultion for communicating with my fellow ps3's. and in my mind its a priority because ps3 leads the entertainment forefront, and has been the first console ever to include the option to install a seperate os out of the box. It is basically a mainstream linux box. this seems like the start of real linux commercial interest. if I cant use a forum to talk to my ps3 comrades. is there a different way to find information? can you at least reccomend keywords in the search box.

I don't use the forum search tool much - I use either
googlbuntu http://www.googlubuntu.com/
uboontu http://www.uboontu.com/
or google with site:ubuntuforums.org in the search string
Try using those.

I got really fed up trying to search in the forum search, found uboontu and read about the other 2.
I think no wthough that the google box at the top of the forum search page does the same as site:ubuntuforums.org.
Only really use the forum search for very specific things by searching in titles instead of posts or if I'm searching by username.

Thanyou for your very helpful links im sure they will help me find stuff easier. as for not having a frum for ps3 linux users heres why we cant just use irc ans why we should have one anyway.
1. Most of us dotn use IRC and the ones who play ps3 is usally going not going to be a tech freindly crowd, mainly because the ps3 is so mainstream, and there are much more people readily available in the forums
2. It would nice to have a place to look at all threads within the subforum to get an idea of the different problems and solutions the community have created for the ps3. It makes more sense to have things in one place than to search through archives of different threads hoping you'll land on the right one.
3. It would boost the popularity of ubuntu itself vs. the other linuxes if we had a place to support the many ps3 users
4. Too many keywords keywords share the same query when you want to find exaclty the issue thats wrong or a mod for your ps3. (ex:ps3, wine , windows emulation, Backup,) This seems to just lead to more digging.
5. the forums take up the same space whether there in one place or scattered evrywhere. so it would make more sense to have them in one place.
Btw: Yellow has quite an extensive forum community solely for ps3 users, and since they started it about a year ago they have blown up with responses and reply to it. and people ar enow developing programs for it because of it. And i dont like yellow dog i think ubuntu is much faster and user friendly and runs programs better. So to boost interest in ubuntu or even ion linix in general: Please start a forum.. There are way too many ps3 linux users to ignore. btw: i heard about ps3 linux by word of mouth, and by soemone whos not even into linux or modding at all. just an idea of how fast this is picking up. thank you for reading

I made a suggestion to the admins, that would make everyone happy (Give place for PS3, while not creating a new forum)

That would be awsome. I cant thank you enough. Im brimming with excitement to think of the possibilities of ppc linux development. whats good for the ps3 is also good for all other systems using there processor which includes. the original xbox, smaratphones, wii, Pocket pcs, restaurant lcds. There are countless opportunities. Thank you, Thank you.. you guys are all right

True. but ubuntu is open source meaning it never stops. and im sure there are many others who feel the same way. just ask people who own an original xbox, and xbox 360 (same processor, same linux)
And as for the forum, thank you for your time and concern. It is much appreciated.

A PS3 section would be useful just for PS3 related topics. Games to bluetooth headsets. I'm in the market for a keyboard/headset. Be nice to chat with somebody that already went shopping. Community Cafe works fine too though.

It is a community supported port now...

This is another good argument for that separate generic PPC forum that was requested awhile back...

I agree,
The Ubuntu product is great - I have stumbled into getting it running - but to help me to use it and spread the word I need some help in tweaking it to get it fully operational.
A sub forum for PS3 users would really help PS3 Ubuntu spread, as people would be able to make it work for them
thanks

I agree! I am going to install Linux on my PS3, so it would be great to talk about it.
Guys, if you are interested, I have organized the social group "Sony Playstation 3". We can generally discuss PS3 there.

Thats great. but we dont have a subforum we can talk about ps3 ubuntu.
It really would help solidy the os for it because one of the problems that ubuntu pc users run into is compatabilty with video cards and cpus, and if evryone is developing and sharing on one cpu setup and processor, the results would be the same for everyone that used it, and we could cover much more ground.
I would really like to see the capabilities of ps3's 8 core, cell processor and blue ray capabilties. If we had a chance to talk to one another and share our findings, we would have A very up to date cpu with extreme capabilties. The ps3 already has it all. (*bluetooth *USB 2.0 *Wi-Fi *bluray
Please try and arrange some way to build ground here. The shelf life of a typical video game console is five years, and the ps3 has been out for a little over a year, So if we could develop on it, then we still have a good 4 years until the next wave of consoles come out. It just seems like too much of an opportunity to waste.

This would be a great idea. There isn't a huge amount of support out there for linux on the ps3 in any form. I installed Yellowdog on my brother's ps3 (it's what he wanted in the end I wish he had decided on Ubuntu).
Would be awesome to have a subforum for the ps3 here as he just isn't using it to it's full potential :(
I'm all for a subforum!

You can still make threads on this, I would suggest in the Cafe for now.

Some topics may be suitable in the Apple Users forum for now since there are many PPC users there... until a PPC architecture forum is made...

I hate to raise a thread from the dead, I hope this isn't causing a problem but I am very much interested in where PS3 *ubuntu (I'm running Xubuntu) people are asking their questions. Is it in the cafe?
Also, how is the progress going for a sub forum or other alternative?
And just to add something fresh to this maybe a prefix called 'PS3 - PPC' that you could add to the title in the same way as we add 'ubuntu' or 'kubuntu' etc.
That might make searching easier...

Well. I still have a ps3 and I still want a section we ps3 users can easily identify and assemble from the ubuntuforums homepage so we can all get together. starting a thread in the cafe is not sufficient because our topics get fogged by other discussions. I dont think what Im asking for is unreasonable and will not require extra server space or any more management. So why can't we ubuntu users on the ps3, have our place yet? please respond back staff on when or why we cant have our own ps3 development forum. The ps3 ubuntu is very user freindly with a slick interface, and if we find out a way to use its processor and bluray. we would have a very useful hd multimedia machine, that would beat out other high end pcs, that would be used by millions of users. I hope I dont sound like Im complaining, but I would still like comminicate easily with others ps3 ubuntu users. and the potential of the ps3 is undeniable. Thank you,
-Dan

Please, can I have some feedback on whether or not we are going to designate a place for us ps3 users using ubuntu. I would like to hear back from a staff member regarding this issue. My ps3 sits with an oldversion of ubuntu running slowly on a multi core proccessor and I cannot use my Wi Fi connection or acces my blu- ray drive. I know there have been advances towards this on yellow dog, but ubuntu has gianed much more speed and popularity, and I appreciate all the work that went into the very user freindly interface. All that being said, bring s me to a question that has been asked before:
Why cant we have our own section for ps3 users to collaberate with each other?

Well, I did. My proposal was to have a single forum, the current Sparc forum renamed, with different tags for the various platforms.

It is much appreciated and Im sure others will benifit from it.

Yes, Apple PPC, not the Intel models.
It would solve two problems with one stone. A forum for less numerous platforms, remove the mix of Intel and PPC in the Apple forum, and make the Sparc forum more useful.

splitting the PPC and Intel Mac into separate forums is a double up of resources and will be confusing to some.
I am more in favour of consolidating as opposed to expanding

I think the Mac issues are common enough to have their own forum. If the Apple users forum had prefixes for PPC and Intel, that would be a different story.

agree. The PPC users seem to have dwindled because of the influx of Intel Mac users. Making it easier to help the PPC users would probably be best to keep any community support. Many of the PPC Mac users are also for having a "PPC Arch" forum rather than being Mac specific.

What has come of this PS3buntu thread? Are there any PS3 Groups made? I'm curious if one could make a GoogleGroup and some how connect it to an UbuntuForums Group. Sharing posts/resources. Even the Yedda answer sharing website has some features I would like to integrate into these Forums. I own a PS3 and want so badly to have an easy way to use all of Ubuntu's features on it.
