ihave ubuntu 8.04 i'm unable to enable my desktop effects
my processor is AMD ATHLON 64
my chipset type is S3G/VIA UniChrome II Graphics

I assume you're talking about the desktop cube and compiz-fusion. Unfortunately compiz is not currently compatible with Via display cards.
Things you could use are screenlets (small applets that show various things like weather) and desktop drapes (which switch backgrounds). Both can be found with Synaptic Package Manager. The other item is conky which shows PC resources (there's loads of posts on this forum).

i have one it works fine . you just have to install restricted drivers and convert.exe to.deb

HI and you do not have to be rude. I have used that chipset and have never seen a restricted driver for S3G/VIA UniChrome II Graphics. Please post the out put of the lspci command in the terminal and post a screen shot of the restricted drivers. Thanks :KS
