Modem/Router help

I have acquired a computer which has Ubuntu 8.04 already installed on it. So could someone help me connect to my ISP "Tiscali", using a "Netgear DG834G Modem/Router". Thanks all

go to the terminal and type ifconfig.. and ensure you are getting an ip from your router.. if not go to system->admin->network and go to your network card properties and set it to DHCP.. then go to the terminal and type sudo pppoeconf and follow instructions
