Situation : VHS camcorder sound connected from red and white RCA to the microphone jack of the sound (ATI SB ALC882 on board). Sound is set as WAV stereo 44100 Hz 16 bit.
Recording sound gives the sound level meter all the time to maximum. The sound level input slider has no effect.
Sound input in preferences is set to OSS : /dev/dsp
I cannot find how to reduce the input level in order to get the level meters at lower values.

Anybody know what is wrong ?

SOLVED : I found under Edit --> preferences in Volume Control (right click on the loudspeaker icon and then choose Open Volume Cotrol) the possibility to visualize Input Sources. This give a new tab Optoin. There I could select Line for Input Source.

It gives an new problem for which I will make maybe a new trhead.

Some further search : i do not have the possibility in audacity 'preferences' 'audio I/O' to select 'line in'. I also have not the selector switch besides the output and input sliders.
Is there anybody with the 'line in' possibility for an ALC882 chip on board of the motherboard ?
