View Full Version : [ubuntu] Different behaviour with different wireless routers

I just installed Ubuntu on a friend's laptop (Acer Aspire 5610). While I was at my place setting it all up, almost everything went smooth and connection to my wireless network was almost instant.

Now that she took it home she's experiencing terribly long times (I mean minutes) for the connection to be made after entering the WiFi password.

The differences between her network and mine:

1. I use a passphrase and she's using an hex string.

2. I use 128 bit WEP ans she uses 64 bit WEP.

3. I have a Sitecom router and she has a Dlink router.

Besides that, she's not a power user and doesn't dare to change any settings.

I tend to think it has something to do with the router, but when she used Windows, the connection worked flawlessly and so I'm posting here just in case anyone has got any clue.

I'm planning paying her a visit in the next few days to check things in situ.

Thanks for any suggestions.
