I have an Inspiron 1420 Dell notebook, which unfortunately has an NVIDIA Geforce 8 series graphics card.
I installed Kubuntu and things were working pretty well. I could play some games and the graphics were nice.
I tried to install Compiz. I failed repeatedly, installed and uninstalled numerous packages, but eventually gave up and had to use the recovery startup option to fix things.
I thought I'd fixed things, but now things are even worse; I can't play any games with graphics more advanced than Nethack's.
Any idea how to get things back to their original state?
Ideally I'd like to make Compiz work, but I've resigned myself to waiting for better support for that.
Thanks for the help.
