I use to connect normally to the internet but for some reason the Network Icon on the taskbar disappeared and I added the Network Manager back to the panel. At the beginning when I would right click on it, I would get, Enable Networking, Enable Wireless... Now I only get properties, and when i go in it says Name: eth0 (since I'm not using wireless now) and Status.. I can't figure out how to connect to a wireless?

Is there a way to restore the original Network Icon that was there before?

Bump:

Similar problem after I re-organized my taskbar with a few new icons. The network utility icon just disappeared.

I too had this happen when I was on the road. I managed to install Network Connection and get connected but want network manager back. Does anybody have an idea what happened and how we can fix it. I have looked everywhere for Network Manager and can't find it.

I found the answer with further search. What seems to happen is that the notification area of top "toolbar" (i don't remember what it is called officially) gets lost. Right click on the "toolbar" and add Notification Area. It brought it back for me.
