At first, DVDs were working fine; I had all the codecs installed and it worked perfectly. Yesterday, however, I got an error message in Totem stating "An error occurred: Could not read from resource."
The disc is mounting and is on my desktop. I reinstalled libdvdcss2, and double-checked to make sure it was using the right device. Sometimes it doesn't mount at all, but when it does, VLC tries to play it, and the screen is a bit scrambled for a second before it cuts off and gives up.
I also tried Kaffeine, and it gives me a few error messages on start up. First, it says that libdvdcss isn't installed, though it is. (Not sure if the 2 makes it unrecognizable.) It also says permission denied to access my DVD drive. In the terminal it says this:
kbuildsycoca running...
DCOP Cleaning up dead connections.
HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Any ideas?
