After upgrading to 8.04, kernel 2.6.24-16-generic (from 2.6.20-16) on a Sony laptop model VGN-n320 I get the following message,

Starting up ...
...
[ 36.603986] ACPI: EC: acpi_ec_wait timeout, status = 0, expect_event = 1
[ 36.604038] ACPI: EC: read timeout, command = 128

...stays on that screen about 70% of the time. The other 30% of the time I don't see this screen and it boots normally.
Any alternative to having to reinstall?
Additionally the box doesn't see the SD or Memory Stick slots.

Boot the computer on battery if this is a laptop: 191137
Same issue here..
I have not tested the memory stick slots, will do it soon and give input. Any error?

No error mess on the memory cards, just no see um.

Hmm, semms that I put away the card thingy some place I cannot find it..
I'll keep looking and test it :)
