View Full Version : [ubuntu] Voodoo 3500 S-Video out

Hi folks,

I have an old 3dFx Voodoo 3500 AGP card in a learn-to-use-Linux box. When I first put it together and installed Ubuntu Server, I was able to use the S-Video output on the huuuggggeee blue cable (so I could use the display’s picture-in-picture capabilities) without a problem. I put Ubuntu Desktop on top to get access to the GUI and other features (sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop), but when I rebooted, all I got was electric noise on the display. I rebooted again, but this time with the VGA cable attached, and all is well.

Switching between inputs on the display is a bit cumbersome, so I’d really like to use the PIP if I can. I saw other threads that referenced the card not working at all, but via the VGA port I get a problem-free display.

Any thoughts?

I hope this is the right forum for this – in some ways I should be restricted to the absolute beginner, but as this is device-specific I thought it might be more appropriate here. Please accept my apologies if I’m posting in the wrong place.

Thanks,

Rhythm
