i have a laptop with an ALC883 built in 7.1 surround sound.. im technically using ubuntu 8.04 which i installed to command line and aptitude install kde-core for the k desktop, and im using the alsa architecture... the sound itself works fine, analog, digital, spdif output works.. problem is, volume is only at the maximum level, and if i adjust the volume at the receiver, as soon as it changes to a new song, volume is back to maximum again.. so i need to find some sort of a way of adjusting the volume via software by somehow creating a master volume that will adjust my spdif volume... i was reading about softvol plugins for alsa.. and it seems that might work if i could get it configured, but i am unable to do so.. if anyone does, and knows if this will fix my problem, or knows how to fix my problem, let me know.. progress would be much appreciated.
