Umm..I have a stock ASUS EeePC 4G, without any external hard drive
or storage device. I want to replace the current Xandros OS with
either Ubuntu or Xubuntu. What I want to do is either...

1.1 Install Ubuntu 8.04 Server Edition (for server functions
and the LAMP Server).
1.2 Install the Ubuntu or Xubuntu Desktop using the Alternate CD.
(Which should I use, Ubuntu or Xubuntu..?)

or

2.1 Install Xubuntu Desktop CD on my EeePC.
2.2 Install LAMP Server.

My problems are...
1. How will I do it without CD-ROM?
2. Will I not encounter problems in terms of disk space, hardware
compatibility and/or the OS itself?

Please..please..please...I really need your help!

Hi Jesar!
I have an Asus eee too, and actually running eeeUbuntu wich is a modified ubuntu that fits on eeepc. Stock ubuntu mainly work on the little asus, but you'll have to recompile madwifi drivers by your own, and also some gnome tweaking to make the tiny screen more usefull.

I've tried gnome and xfce (ubuntu & xubuntu) on the little asus, and both make the work, maybe xfce is a little faster but a only a little.

About the install, you can make it with an usb dvd drive (about 50 bucks) or an USB stick. Both are ok, but i preffer the external drive.

and about the disk space... 4G is room enough for the base system and the programs, but no for storing data... I bought a spare 16GB sd card for that porpouse.

Hope that this helps you :)

take a look at this links :
