static with soundblaster live in hardy 8.04

Hey y'all;

I cannot find any posts related to this on the forum.

My soundblaster live! card is recognized by xubuntu, but the only sound I get off of two different linux boxes is static. just like an out of tune radio.

Any clue as to what I need to try?

If I need to post output please tell me what command to use in terminal. I have not really master linux yet.

Not sure if you have the same card but I have the same problem with a Sound Blaster Live CT4781. I was able to kill the static (hiss) by using the digital output (black) vs. the analog output (green) then went into the volume settings to enable SB Live analog/digital output jack. I learned that the volume was controlled by the Wave Surround slider.
