Hey,
when i added and saved any media file in my iPod shuffle(1st gen. 512mb) using gtk pod.. the playists clearly showed the file in the 'list of media files in iPod', but when i hear songs from iPod headphones... the song is skipped and moved to next song( i am not able to hear it). this is my first try with gtkpod since my switch from windows( i used iTunes to syn the playist) to ubuntu.

please help

My courses of action

last week
1. using ubuntu Durin this time... i was able to sync my iPod with gtkpod with no problems.. also .. the iPod icon came in desktop (ubuntu) soon after i plug in my iPod.

2. made the switch to windows temporarily ...i used itunes to add couple of songs when i was in windows

this week
1. switched again from windows to ubuntu... now i am not able to sync my iPod with gtkpod.
The desktop icon of iPod is not coming in the desktop after i plug in my iPod. but it comes in 'Places -> ' menu. when i open the iPod from places->iPod

i went inside iPod control directory, it shows couple of other songs which i didn't add at all... i added them a month ago.. but during the last week switch to windows.. itunes said it cleared the ipod playist.. but still now.. those songs occupy the space in ipod ...

please help.

One of the main issues with using ipods on ubuntu (and any other linux variant) is the nature of the way the ipod handles databases. This can be problematic when going back to iTunes which doesnt like the way linux does it sometimes (as far as I can tell).

For me, the best thing to do was to use floola, which builds it's databases to be fully compatible with iTunes on windows and mac. Its not opensource, but it works brilliantly. You can get it from here: http://www.floola.com/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=download_linux

and then all you have to do is to extract the file you will have downloaded and double click the floola file (its a self contained executable), and it will open up an iTunes style interface, from which you can manipulate your ipod, ading or deleting files. It even works well with the iPod classic which was hard to get runinng under linux without a few headaches.

Using floola, you can delete and create playlists and notes on your ipod, as well as adding music and films. It can also handle converting media formats to a certain extent. It does also have a restore function, to 'fix' your ipod, restoring it to a virgin state, although I've never had to use it.
