So I finally tracked down a power supply for my new laptop and tried to boot 'er up and no dice. I get the Acer splash screen then a blank black command line type screen. I was able to get into the BIOS setup and look around but I don't really know what I'm doing in there so I haven't touched anything. I want to install ubuntu, I get the same results trying to boot from the Live CD.

What does the command line type screen actually say?
Is there a BIOS setting for "boot order" or somesuch? Try making it so it'll boot from cd-rom before trying the harddrive.

It didn't say anything but a brief bit of info about the bios manager for about 1 second then it went blank except for a little blinking cursor at the top. I don't know what I did, but I managed to get it to boot from the cd-rom drive and I got ubuntu up and running. Works great now so I dunno what it's problem was.
