Hi everyone.

I'm considering to buy a Behringer UCA202 or UCG102 for my laptop. Basically I'm looking for a cheap USB audio interface with low latency to run software like Ardour and/or Rosegarden (and posibly virtual instruments and samplers like QSynth, Hydrogen, etc.) from my laptop, which currently has an hda-intel soundcard onboard with horrible latency.

Can anyone tell me if any of these devices work alright in Ubuntu? I've heard they are supported by ALSA, but would like to hear some real experiences with them, just to be sure.

Thanks in advance.

With USB devices, alsa-support usually implies that they're standards compliant (i.e. will work just fine). Furthermore from my google reads it seems even more likely to be the case. Standards compliant USB soundcards are super linux-friendly.

Here is a tutorial on USB Audio devices (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/UsbAudioDevices) from the UbuntuStudio community docs. In fact the tutorial uses the UCA202 as their example card!

With the cost of those soundcards, I'd advise you to buy away - but try to do it from a store with a return policy (just in case - as I have no first-hand experience with those cards).

I also should warn you that they'll probably be very low quality cards (you get what you pay for).

Thanks for the reply.

I know they are cheap cards, but I'm just looking for something to do lite work on the road. I have a pre-2006 (I read that the newer ones have Linux compatibility issues, but mine is form the older ones and is working perfectly) M Audio Delta 1010LT at home which I use for serious work.

But, what about latency on those Behringer USB Audio Interfaces?
