Hi All:
I am a newbie to ubuntu, have used linux mildly but this is the first time I am planning on using linux as my *only* platform on a new build. I installed ubuntu 8.04 on my fresh built desktop machine. My problem is that I cannot connect to the internet over a wired connection.
This is what I have tried so far:
To begin, I went to System -> Administration -> Network and configured the "Wired Connection". I set the "Connection Settings" "Configuration" to "Automatic Configuration (DHCP)". After that, I rebooted and then fired up mozilla, that did not work.
I then did a ifconfig and saw that while eth0 has no IP address, there is a "eth0:avahi" entry that has an IP address. I googled and found this article: http://omingo.zorngrid.com/. i tried the process laid out here, and that too did not work.
And that brings me to you guys :-). I have copy pasted below output from ifconfig, iwconfig and lspci - my PCI wireless card is also not working but that is for another day!
