View Full Version : [ubuntu] Question about games

So I'm not all too savvy with ubuntu, but I am pretty sure that it supports OpenGL. Now, when companies make games for computers they usually have two versions of it. One for windows (DirectX) and one for Mac(OpenGL).

Seeing as the Mac version uses openGL, is there any reason that it would not work on Ubuntu? Would it be possible for me to buy the Mac version of games and just install that onto Ubuntu? Or is there some other factor coming into play that I'm not seeing.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help answer this!

I don't know specifically what stops you but I know that although mac is much closer to linux than windows it still isn't that simple. You cannot just double click installers in linux to install software.

bah! Well maybe it is slightly easier than on windows, because it does use the same language as far as I know. Anyone have any experience with this? If I can get games working under Ubuntu I'm deleting Vista asap, please help =P

IIRC, there isn't any way at present of running Mac programs in Linux, but you can run some Windows programs through WINE.

There isn't (to my knowledge) a Mac-based equivalent of WINE.

Ahh ok. I do know about WINE and all that sort of things to get windows programs running on Ubuntu, I just thought that there might be an easier way to get programs that use OpenGL (which Ubuntu supports) to run natively on Ubuntu.

btw, is that white sox or a greyed out red sox symbol?
