Hi all.

Heavy Sibelius 5.1 user for composition and uni. Everything I need on my laptop on Ubuntu rather than Vista now, except that. Can stuff about trying to get Sibelius 4 to work but rather just use native software. MuseScore looks great.

Question is: how do I get sound out of it? ex-music tech student so have no problem setting this kind of thing up in Windows but just getting my head around it with Ubuntu (Hardy 8.04 on HP dv6000 lappy). Have been trying to get Fluidsynth happening and find some decent soundfonts. Figuring out where things are supposed to go and how it all fits together.

If there is someone about that has been using this software for awhile for composition and knows their way around, any tips appreciated. :)

Cheers

First of all, you should have fluidsynth installed and at least a soundfont package available. I would like to recommend Personal Copy, which you can get here (http://www.personalcopy.net/).

In MuseScore, tgo to Edit > Preferences and click on the Audio Tab. Then on the SoundFont section, look for your soundfont bank and load it. Click OK.

That should do it.

Fluidsynth installed from synaptic as far as I know (although I have no idea where it is, not in applications). I have downloaded Personal Copy but where should I untar? Make a directory for soundfonts?

In MuseScore, tgo to Edit > Preferences and click on the Audio Tab. Then on the SoundFont section, look for your soundfont bank and load it. Click OK.

Once I have my soundfont untarred in the correct directory, I will get onto this bit ... thanks again ...

Hey Angel, thanks. Getting closer. Personal Copy and I guess fluidsynth worked great, but the only instrument (sound) I can get is piano. I added a violin stave and it sounds piano and not sure how to change that. Looking for xml table?

/edit/preferences/general/instrument list? and also 'image path'. How should these be set?

I will keep digging around and look for a solution but any suggestions welcome ... Thanks again and great to see someone on the other side of the world making open-source music ... :)
