Hello everyone, just making this thread to make my first post on ubuntu forums, to let you all know that im a total newb to ubuntu and semi newb to linux. but i love learning about it and trying to figure things out.

so anyways i love how simple 1by1 is a windows program which supposed to work under wine as found here

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=150352

so basically i knew that the newest version of 1by1 1.64 doesnt work in wine and i couldnt find version 1.51 so after a ton of searching around for different programs i finally found v1.57 and installed it using wine and bingo 1by1 works. Currently i have zero issues with it i assume it plays all my music but i havent tested all versions of music format.

v1.51 here just found this link
http://www.listsoft.com/programs/16377/
i did not test this download so letting you know

v1.57 current using, http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/downloads.php/id/4279/software/1by1/
not sure if this is where i got it, untested

v1.60 here http://download.chip.eu/en/1by1-v1.60_176975.html
untested

v1.63 here http://1by1.uptodown.com/en/
untested

OFFICIAL 1by1 webpage http://mpesch3.de1.cc/1by1.html

anyways just trying to be as helpfull as possbile, maybe one day ill test all versions up to 1.64 and use the newest one that works assuming there were some fixes in newer versions that might be helpfull

feel free to post any responses or advice is always welcome

Thanks for the locations for older 1by1 versions! Link for v 1.51 was down so I downloaded v 1.57. Seems to work fine.

Others coming across this thread:
Don't forget to put mpglib.dll in the 1by1 directory in order to play mp3s.

a linux program similar to 1by1 is Decibel Audio Player available at http://decibel.silent-blade.org/

Good lead, genie! It's in the repositories. Trying Decibel now and it looks like a "keeper". Definitely would appeal to anyone who, like me, prefers a simple, straight forward mp3 player. Thanks!

After messing with Decibel a bit, I found it a bit quirky. It scrambled the order of some tracks (without using the shuffle function) and although I could resort the tracks, reopening the folder redisplayed the tracks in the same scrambled order. That sort of defeats the purpose of a directory style player. Album icons would display only on some tracks within some folders.

I still prefer 1by1 via WINE. It has its own quirks under WINE, but I've grown to accept them.

The current Decibel version in the repo works very well! Great, I went searching for 1by1 on Wine, now I am enjoying Decibel: exactly what I like!

You're right harmus. I tried Decibel again sometime after my last post and it works like a champ. I don't know what caused my problem with it at first but after I looked at it again, it worked beautifully. (It was most likely something stupid I was doing.) I should have posted an update but didn't (probably out of shame at being so stupid). I really should apologize to the author of this fine application.

Thanks for the "heads-up" on the new version. I will upgrade immediately.
