I'm looking to buy an external HD because my laptop only hase about 60 gigs on it, which isn't enough for me. I currently have ubuntu 8.04 installed and want a good, reliable external drive USB drive that i can use between linux and Windows machines. Any suggestions? Thanks

you didnt really specify how much space you wanted or how much you wanted to spend so I may need to revise this choice but I have the older version of this drive and it has been reliable and works well.

I dont want to spend more then 150 dollars, and at least 120 gigs. I'm more looking for what brands are reliable and work well between linux and windows. thanks for helping

edit: Also, if possilbe I want one that doesn't have to have its own power source, that I can just plug into the machine via USB and go

I have a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB and a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 250GB. I've had both for about three or four months, and they are both excellent drives. If you are looking for portable, go for the Maxtor, if mobility doesn't matter, go for the Seagate. But don't forget, there are plenty of other choices out there so make sure you read reviews and do some research:).

Good luck!

if you dont want to have a power cord you are going to be looking at the smaller(less power) 2.5 inch drives. Here is a nice one:

The maxtor onetouchs are really really nice. you can actually also try and get an external enclosure and a hard drive and put it together yourself. it is usually a tad cheaper.
