I am looking at getting a new laptop and one of the possible machine is the dell 1420n.

I was wondering what people were getting for battery life and whether they had the 6 cell or the 9 cell?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

I'm getting about 3 hours, surfing and skyping w a 6 cell 1420n.
If I were doing it again, I'd get Bluetooth, lose the headset wires and wireless mouse transmitter.

On my 6-cell, between 3 and 4 hours with the wifi off and screen around 3/4 brightness.

2-3 hours with 9 cell

I use Compiz on NVIDIA though, and do software development.

May I recommend not getting the glossy screen? You won't be able to see this screen in the outdoors. In the office it looks great though.

On average, I get around 5 hours on the 9-cell battery. This is with wifi and bluetooth off, screen at half brightness, and Intel integrated graphics.

I have a Inspiron 1420n w/ a 9cell battery. I AVG around 4 hrs of solid usage, constant wifi on, music playing and screen at full brightness. Good luck w/ your future purchase, I've had zero complaints for my 1420n. =]
