sound in only one speaker?

I have been using ubuntu (currently 7.10) for quite awhile on my laptop. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. All of a sudden this morning sound stopped coming out of the right speaker. When I go back to my windows partition the sound works. Anyone have any idea to fix this?

im having the same problems, after an update, either my left or right speaker will go silent, random which one it is, then a couple days later it will just come back... i have a thread too, but i cant find it, someone might have replied with a solution

well whatever it was, its back now. I didnt notice what i was doing the exact time it started working again, but it does. how strange.

Something may be throwing the balance settings off. When that happens open advanced volume controls and ensure your balance is set to equal (in the middle).

I seem to have the same problem- where can i find this advanced volume controls?

PS:I am using 8.04.
