I use XP and Pinnacle to edit my videos which gives excellent results. As this is really my only reason for holding on to windows, I would be grateful if anyone could tell me if there is a similar application for Ubuntu. Or, if you also edit your own videos, what do you use?
Thanks

I think Kino and Avidemux do the job.

sudo apt-get install avidemux

sudo apt-get install kino

There is also openmovieeditor and kdenlive.

I haven't actually used any of them successfully though.

Problem immediately, Kino is not seeing my video cam. It is connected via firewire port.

I use Pinnacle Studio too, and haven't found anything that comes close with Linux yet....

I use Avidemux myself, but you can try the others, too. (Lots of choices here:D)

I'm trying them out again myself.

I opened an old home movie in Kino, edited it, and saved it, no problem.

Kdenlive crashed on starting the program. Oh dear.

Openmovieeditor seemed OK (though with a counter-intuitive interface), but crashed when I tried to export the finished work.

Thanks to all. My problem solved here:

Which may be useful to others with similar problems.

I've heard good things about Lives.

Thanks, Billygoldberg. Lives looks interesting but my install failed here "installArchives() failed"!! I can't go any further although I want to.

Sorry, too quick on the trigger. I reinstalled and now all is ok. Thanks for the tip, will try it tomorrow.
