Local Web Development

Hi,

I need some help with configuring Ubuntu Server to be a local development server for web design. I have a fresh installation with nothing on, basically what I need it to do is as follows:

- Be a DNS server with domains like www.example.devel, or www.test.devel etc etc
- Have Apache configured to have separate web spaces for each domain
- And have Apache configured to run PHP

Any help will me much appreciated.

Yhat's a lot to ask for in a quick reply. Have you ever configured sub domains in DNS? Have you ever installed Apache and PHP?

Books have been written on both subjects. I think you are better off installing Ubuntu LAMP and using hosts files insted of DNS. But if you insist on DNS it can be installed along with LAMP using synaptic or apt-get.

You can Google: Apache configuration and DNS configuration. Lot's of stuff on the web.
