Hello guys!!

Having just joined the linux community and with still lots of memories of the innumerable crashes, blue screens of windows ..... due to the wonderful windows virus.. I had install avg for linux on my ubuntu hardy. Now i want to update the definitions... but i have to do so as root. I just cant figure out how to ???

Guys would appreciate your help.

Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal

If your doing commands here use:~$ sudo <commands here>

to change files in gui as root add/remove pcman, Tools -> etc.

The answer I got from the AVG forums when researching this for my own machines was:

1) Read the AVG documentation, which tels you to:

2) Add yourself to the AVG group, from the users+groups admin menu, then reboot. and the GUI update will work, without the need for sudo or gksudo.

Make second icon of avg.(copy)
Rename the launcher(command) name to "gksudo avg", then update en close program.
Then starte the program normal way.
Do not scan with sudo.
