I tried to run counter strike source with the suggestions that I found on the site and from what people had experienced before.
The thing that gets me is that I can load and even play the game on my old IBM T30 without any other problems except that the frame rate is terrible, but that's because it's an old system.
My NEW system -the one with issues- is a Lenovo T61 15.4" widescreen,
Intel Core2 Duo, 2.5 ghz
2 GB Ram
Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics card
Running Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy)
Gnome: 2.22.2
kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic
WINE version: 1.1.0
I have disabled the in-game chat thing, and tried multiple settings for dxlevel, and only have the ALSA sound checked off, and have ended PulseAudio before attempting to run the program, but still it fails to run.
I don't even get to the first in game menu. So it freezes at the initial loading screen that goes fullscreen. Also, HL2 does the same thing, except that it successfully plays the vendor videos before attempting to load, then freezes the system as well.
Also, I was wondering if maybe the fact that I have both a trackpad and a nub mouse has anything to do with the problems I'm having.
Some other details are, if I'm listening to music with rhythmbox, it will stop right when the entire system freezes up. Also, i've tried the setting where it emulates a virtual desktop @ 1024x768 and that doesn't stop it from freezing either.
In all cases where I've tried to run Counter strike Source, or half-Life 2, the entire computer locks up and i can't do anything but hold the power button till it switches off...
If anyone can help me out that would be REALLY REALLY awesome.
