Hey I installed Ubuntu for the second time to make it a dual boot.
The first time it either brought out my faulty hardware into the open or it caused it. I don't know if software can destroy hardware though.. But anyways after getting my motherboard, RAM, and HD replaced I decided to go for try #2. This time I can't do anything in it. It worked though I got it all installed. But my touchpad goes wicked crazy. The lappy I have is a newer XPS M1530.
I love it it's an awesome computer. So I am thinking I need drivers for Ubuntu for my laptop. I have tried editing the files like it says on the other threads but I am unable to save it. I can't log in as root either. So if anyone has a solution I could try that would be great. Thanks.

The following 2 wiki pages are a good start for those running Ubuntu on the M1530:

http://jesperdj.pbwiki.com/Ubuntu-on-the-Dell-XPS-M1530

and

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/InstallingUbuntuOnADellXPSM1530

The problem you describe is a common one on a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04 on the M1530, but luckily it is easy to fix. Both links above explain how to address this.

I'm sorry but those don't solve my problem I was finally able to add that i8042 thing but it didn't work. If it matters at all I added it to menu.lst. Thats what it said to do. It still doesn't work and this is getting very frustrating. I feel like I am stuck with Vista. Someone please help. And Happy 4th!
