View Full Version : [ubuntu] graphics driver suffering

July 3rd, 2008, 04:42 PM
Greetings Ubuntu users & c

I've installed Ubuntu Hardy on my friend's Compaq presario 900, and almost everything's working fine...
Two issues:
1: No 3D desktop
2: Can't play .dat files; neither in mplayer, nor in vlc.
Please help, if you can.

3D graphics, am I right in thinking it has an ATI Radeon 7000 ?
Have you set appearance preferences to extra.
It should be possible to run compiz-fusion, it's just that you've probably got the wrong graphics driver. You want to try using the restricted drivers manager . It may also be worth running compiz-check (http://forlong.blogage.de/article/pages/Compiz-Check) as it may give you some pointers towards the problem.
I assume you want to play DVD video. Click on quickstart in my signature and install all the codecs from there.
