Okay,

So I added the ubuntu ultimate repo to my apt sources.list thinking I may be able to get libmlt++ there but no luck. Anyway, I looked at my update notifier, and it said "there are 100 updates available". Hmmm... I'm not running Ultimate edition. I'm running Feisty Studio.

Should I install these 100 updates or not? Will this seriously screw up my system??

In theory, if all the packages are in order, and you trust the 'ultimate edition' people, you could upgrade without 'screwing up your system'. However, personally I only add external repos for single apps - that way if something breaks, I'll know why. The other way lies chaos :)
