Hey guys,

I just installed VMWare on Ubuntu Hardy with XP Pro as the VM. I installed VMWare tools and now I get this error message in the system tray... "VMWare tools service is not running"

I have gone to the 'Services' and made sure that VMWare Tools Service is set to Automatic and started but I still have the red X on the VMWare Tools Icon. ](*,)

Any help would be much appriciated!

Don't know if this will help or not. I have installed VMServer on Ubuntu 8.04 and then virtualized my XP OS within that. I did the right mouse click on the tab and selected Install VMware Tools but the tools never installed.

Possible solution:

1. Have a CD drive installed in your VM.

2. Navigate to the CD. It should have the vmware tools image on it. (I don't know how the magic is done but the tools cd will just show up)

3. Run the setup program and reboot.
