Some one please help me fix this problem. I am running Hardy Heron. I try to print to my Dell 1720 Laser printer and I cant. Under System>Administration>Printing I find my local printer but the make and model says Dell M5200 Foomatic/Postscript (recommended). What do I do? I try to change the driver but the only models that come up are 1100, 1110, M5200, ans S2500. When I do try to change it just to try it asks me for my password on localhost and I dont know what it is. Please Help.

Your question is not a Dell question. That may be why no one has responded. I would repost your problem in "general" or "beginner"
Sometimes you have to repost a few times before you get an answer.

There is so much activity here in the Ubuntu Forums that it makes a difference when you post a query. For instance, weekdays, during normal biz hours is not a good time. Late afternoon and evening is best.

There is an excellent Unbuntu area for printing. Just Google search Ubuntu printing or look for printing in the Ubuntu documentation

Bruised.

Hi you actually don't need to download this,
You can configure the printer to work with the Generic PCL 6/PCL XL driver.
details of how to do this are here ....

Just wanted to say that the above settings still work with Ubuntu 12.04
