Rules:

Forum guidelines on content apply. In other words, safe for kids and safe for work.

Try not to quote embedded images; take a moment to snip them out.

Off-topic posts will be edited or moved.

Thumbnail your image, or use the forum's attachment system. Full-size embedded images are annoying and will be snipped mercilessly.

Take a moment and tell everyone the details of your desktop, such as the theme name, the wallpaper name, the icons and any programs you're using in the image.

Enjoy!

This is mine:

Wallpaper - A classic vista aurora... I will post if needed because I don't remember where I got it from.

Emerald - Kore Suite, using the Kore-Glass theme and moving the buttons, as well as bolding the font.

GTK - T-ish Brushed from gnome-look.

Icons - Black-white 2 Style from Gnome-Look

EDIT: Check post #8... MY UPDATED THEME IS THERE

Here is my desktop on my laptop. I am trying out LXDE right now, which uses Openbox. Very awesome, but only wish I could have round corners on my window borders. :(

Theme: Clearlooks
Icons: NuoveXT 2
Web Browser: Seamonkey 2

EDIT: Nuts, second. :(

Sorry dude, but I think that emerald theme looks like rubbish on that gtk theme.

Sorry dude, but I think that emerald theme looks like rubbish on that gtk theme.

Well I could not find anything else that I haven't already tried. I wanted a light theme, and by that I meant light in color. This was the best I could do, and it looks OK to me. I previously had Neutronium Gilouche as my GTK theme, which I liked. I just got tired of it being so dark. Maybe I will change it back...

I just did and I will keep it for now. The wallpaper is the map wallpaper from Gnome-Look.

EDIT: Actually, this is a REALLY nice combination, IMO.

IceWM theme: icestudio
Wallpaper: sunset2.jpg (forgot where I got it, sorry)
Idesk for desktop icons

75864

Gnome theme: Anniversary
Icon: Black and white2 neon style.

The theme is a mix between new human theme from intrepid alpha, and applecure's metacity (by kimi) plus my own works. Unfortunately I can't release it for public yet since it uses the new Murrine engine from svn.

I'll release it after cimi announces that his new engine is ready for public use.

That looks better, but if you want a light setup you haven't used, I use this one on my desktop:

and the linux mint menu (http://linuxowns.wordpress.com/2008/06/03/install-the-linux-mint-menu-in-ubuntu-hardy/)

The first screenshot is one of my older desktops; I'm using mainly Gaia Nova GTK and the Gaia Siberia metacity,

The second screenshot is my current setup. I'm using the zniavrOObuntoo (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/zniavrOObuntoo?content=81682) (yeah, don't know how to pronounce that either) GTK with the Hemoglobinus (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Hemoglobinus+1.2?content=80122) metacity theme, and the icons for both screenshots are Area Brit (I don't know, I'm fond of those icons for some reason).

I used Aurora-Looks for my GTK theme, Frame for my Emerald theme. Frame was modified in the Emerald Theme Manager to be completely crystal clear, except for the outline.

I don't remember where I got my wallpaper.

http://yaro.marupa.net/gallery/thumbs/screenshot108.png (http://yaro.marupa.net/gallery/screenshot108.png)

I've decided that since I change my desktop frequently, I should keep this post updated.

I am proud of this one. Borne out of an Emerald theme (Which I modified a bit.),I am most proud of that third screenshot's blur effects.

I just made this last night... I was growing tired of my "dark and gloomy" gray June desktop...
It's supposed to be all daring, chic, and RED...
(not obnoxiously red, though...)
My only problem with this is the ***UGLY*** gnome-panel that i need for the notification area. I tried stalonetray, but it doesn't work well with metacity and makes gnome-session-save complain every time I log out.

And guess what? My card doesn't even support 3D acceleration! It's a cheap Sis Graphics Card in an Acer Aspire 3003WLMi... Thank you metacity composite!!!

My theme details:
GTK: Unity (modified to a redish color)
Metacity:Mirage-SELECTED
Icons:HumanElephant-Savane
Wallpaper:Ubuntu-supergirl modified in gimp - grayed out some parts.
Fonts: (in that order) Utopia Italic | Dustisimo Roman Italic | Ubuntu-title bold italic | Beryluim bold Italic | moonospace
AWN with the glass theme and modified color (red)

EDIT: I made a small change of the color in AWN to better match the GTK color, but the change is so subtle, only paranoid observers like me would notice. It was just a little too red...
Since it is not that big of a deal, I have decided not to reload anything for that... I'll leave it to your imagination to wonder what it is now ;)

I suspect dbbolton has edited his rc.xml file to include a keyboard shortcut to complete that task.

If you're using XFCE or GNOME (Even Windows), Alt+F4 is the shortcut key to close the active window. It's included by default.

Like Koori23 said, the default keybinding to close a window in Openbox is Alt+F4. Many applications (Thunar, Epiphany, Quod Libet) can be closed with Ctrl+W. Also, many apps can be closed with Ctrl+Q (Firefox, Pidgin). You can usually find "Close" or "Quit" under the "File" menu too. A final option is to middle-click on the window's task list entry in pypanel.

Nice one uru - kinda makes me want to go back to OB... I'm still on awesome, simply cos i do most of my stuff in the terminal, and its waaay easier to have them all sorted nicely for you!

GTK: wii-black

conky (modify from this (http://blog.brixandersen.dk/?p=67))
A gundam wing wallpaper mono / modify the hue with gimp

The system is pretty old, but it doesn't mean it can't be cool. My goal is keep the system as light as possible so I didn't use compiz and screenlets. Instead I use conky to build up the coolness of the Desktop.

BTW: there is a down side of this setting, it is that because it is xfce, if you use a full desktop cover conky like that, icons on the desktop will be disappear. Which in this case it doesn't effect me much because I do really save anything on my desktop and make it messy, but for some people, they might think it is a bit annoying. If you use gnome, that shouldn't be a problem though.

Um? I don't have a skydome. It's one of the plugins that comes with either fusion-plugins-extra or fusion-plugins-main. Think it's called, "Cube Reflection".

The wallpaper is springwood from Digital Blasphemy. If you give me your screen res, I'm sure I could send it to you.

----------------------------------------

Also, since other people here use compiz, would anyone been able to explain to me if it's possible to change on which borders you can resize an emerald window?

I like using my scrollwheel to shade windows but half the time I try to do it, it doesn't work because my mouse pointer is too close to the top edge of the window frame and when the mouse pointer turns into the little up-arrow, indicating that you can resize the window, it prevents the mousewheel from having any effect.

With Xfwm4, you could resize a window starting from any edge *other* than the top one, presumably to prevent this issue.

Edit: It's also annoying that I accidentally resize a window whenever I try to simply bloody move it.

I just got started with Ubuntu 2 days ago after struggling with windows for years and years... I can't believe I didn't do it sooner! Here is my desktop, haven't quite got the hang of everything yet but its a start!

The theme is truth for linux by unforgivenII and I found random icons to fit on the wallpaper.. I used the screenlets application too. Can't wait to really get stuck in

This is my first attempt to upload. We'll see how it goes.

I don't think there's anything spectacular about my desktop, but there are a couple elements to it.

This is LXDE, running icewm as its WM. The icewm theme may be familiar to some here--it's the ThinBlack theme that is posted here on these forums. I was happy with the default Openbox theme for LXDE, but really like the thin, reflective title bar and wide window borders on ThinBlack, hence the change to icewm and this theme. :-) Thanks to whoever made it. I doubt I will be changing any time soon.

Vital stats summary:

DE: LXDE
WM: icewm
GTK theme: Clearlooks
icons: Elementary
fonts: standard
Wall: standard, decent-enough-looking LXDE wallpaper (since I seldom see it, thanks to FF, why bother changing it?)

-Jon

P.S. Why doesn't the avatar pic I uploaded show? I can't make it show up. :-(

I have never liked transparent windows, but your screen shot almost makes me want them. ;-) That's a beautiful desktop....

-Jon

There are no transparent windows here. It's just the KDE plasmoids.

It's two Folder View plamoids glued to the dashboard. One with the home folder and one with the desktop folder with Quick Launch icons. It's nice to have those as Plasmoids, and makes it fast to launch Dophin looking for files.

With a window open it looks like this:

I can't speak for anybody else, but for myself, I prefer the glossy theme, as it matches the LXPanel I use. But others seem to prefer the non-glossy. Blue, as in the Clearlooks them is more a color I think I'm after, but it would be fun to see what else "works" so I wouldn't want to limit the creativity. ;-) Oh, and thanks for all the links, and the themes!

Thank you rjmdomingo and dbbolton.

I tried that but it didn't quite work (the time kept flashing), which made me decide to install 2.3 after all (only 2.0 is in the repos).

I'm not sure if it worked now, though. The statusbar is hardly visible: it is about 1 pixel in size, with or without the clock. Changing the font size doesn't affect it at all. A bit frustrating... :(

rjmdomingo, would you mind posting the relevant section of your awesomerc file to use remind? If this isn't the right thread for this, perhaps in this one (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=689649)?

Andrek-

Is Emerald necessary to get those window borders? That's about the slickest thing I've seen in a while... Thanks

Unfortunately, there's no metacity/xfwm4/openbox theme for this suite.

There's a *slight* difference between Elegant and Project White/Blackwater theme, don't you think?

btw, small update:

Menu title? You mean emerald borders? Use Emerald Theme Manager

I hope you guys like this setup. I have a transparent terminal which takes up most of the desktop with a little conky action off to the right.

I like simple & dark. Ask me if you want any details!

EDIT: That password file was cracked in 51 seconds, by the way :-$

Whats your theme/Icon set

My application theme is Glossy P (http://art.gnome.org/themes/gtk2/571).

My icon set is MonoBlack (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=61792&forumpage=3&PHPSESSID=6).

I found the wallaper on digg not long ago, but I can't remember the link. A simple search should find it.

Look-alike.

The give-aways are the dock and the Finder. The sidebar is nothing like Leopard's sidebar, and the Dock is kind of "unique."

However, it's an excellent imitation. About as good as anything I've seen.

Hey! I just zoomed in on your screen shot, and your file browser's got a columns view! What app are you using to get that? Or is that just a dummy icon???
