Which is the best video player for Gnome?

I have totem but it freezes when I try to play .mp4, I also have VLC and it is working fine but I want to know more options

I guess you use totem-gstreamer, try totem-xine and check if it still freezes.

I prefer to use totem for nearly everything, except dvds. For that I use mplayer. Another one is xine but I never used it (at least not the xine standalone player but totem-xine). Every player has its pros and cons, so I wouldn't title one with 'best video player'.

I suggest you install GNOME MPlayer for playing video files and VLC for playing video DVDs.

To make VLC your default DVD player, try the relevant instructions in part 4 of my how-to (ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683).
