Low pitch sound in ubuntu

Hi friends!
I am a beginner in linux.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 model that comes with windows vista home premium.
I have recently added a partition in my hard disc and have installed ubuntu 8.04 LTS in it.
When I played some music files in VLC media player and totem media player I was very unpleased by that low pitch voice.
Although the master vol and media pluayers' volumes were max but it was hardly audible.

Im having the same problem, I have sound but its all a little low pitched, at frist I thought that it was just the flash player and the net, but no its all of the sound on ubuntu thats low pitched can anyone help us out, I'm useing an M-Audio Delta 1010 Thanks.
