As the above says I will download around 50GB of torrents for you on my OVH 100Mbit dedicated seedbox for you if you setup it up for me - securely.

I can't get ftp working on my server and my server drive is starting to fill up and I need to get the files.

I need someone to talk me through the setup via instant messaging to setup LAMP, Torrentflux-b4rt and FTP.

I will then download any torrents equaling roughly 50 GB on the seedbox ( they will fly down ) for you. You can either find the torrents yourself or if you can't find what you want, I can look on a few private trackers for you.It can be whatever you want!

We then have the problem of getting the files to you. The best would be to setup a temporary ftp account on the server ( obviously I'd need to trust you first ) for you to then download them. Or I could download them and mail you the DVD's but I'm not burning 10 DVD's! Maybe 2 / 3.

You don't even have to use it all up straight away. I'm a man of my word and I will give you a 50 GB allowance for you to use over any amount of time. The servers paid for for 3 months, but I intend to carry on paying.

You have to be a respected forum member ( i will check your profile ) and I will have to trust you.

If anyone thinks they can try anything I will just reinstall the OS from the control panel and request a new IP address so don't even think about it! This would be an inconvenience but I wouldn't think twice about it, it only takes a few hours to reinstall what I have already.
And please don't be offended if I don't allow you direct access / any credentials. I'm just taking precautions.

Any volunteers?

p.s. A member of staff would be great!

edit: if you don't want to do this. I can do the rest myself it's just sFTP that I have problems with. I need to setup my default ftp directory to be my torrent downloads folder.

I don't mean to sound rude, but if it only takes 10 minutes to do, why aren't you doing it yourself?

You're describing things that are against the community's way of doing things. We as a community don't do help each other out in exchange for goods and services, we just help each other out. I think you may have gotten a better response if you had just written up your questions instead offering some sort of overcomplicated pay system. If we know the answers, we're usually very happy to help.

PS I don't mean to make assumptions about our community, this is just how I perceive it...

Solving your problem via instant messaging isn't going to benefit anyone else apart from you (and perhaps your clients).

Unfortunately I have no experience with sFTP (try doing a search here, there should be a nice howto somewhere explaining how to set it up).

Torrent flux gives you the ability to login via web access (http port 80) and download any content that user has downloaded via torrents anyway.

Another alternative to sFTP is ssh access.

I also have no need for your services (I'd just download Linux distros and few songs from Jamendo anyway).

Best of luck.

I have been on it all day. If you would like me to post the amount of how to's guides I have bookmarked I will. I have followed a number of guides on here & other sites and I've tried and tried. I'm not lazy and have always tried things first.

I was just simply asking someone to dedicate a bit of their time and I will thank them by returning a favor you're making it out like I'm going against the all ethos of the OSC when I'm not and yes that's 1 thing I love about open source.

Also it's common sense that if someone is skilled at doing something they will be able to do it quicker than someone who's not ( if they can do it at all ) Just because it will take someone else 10 mins to do, doesn't mean it will take me that long. I've had actually spend a good couple of hours on it.

Also I did make a post (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=844157)a while b4 this one, asking about it. Despite a number of views no1 replied. ( which is fine )Coincidentally someone has just replied with a v.helpful suggestion so I will now try that out.

I should have been more clear in that I was asking for a specific solution to my problem, I have tried to interpret the guides available and apply it to my situation with no success.

So in case you're trying to make me out to be some sort of snob ( I'm not saying you are, just in case ) that thinks I can jump ahead of others by buying ppl out you're wrong. I just wanted to be quick and get something up and running that I've paid for and I wanted to show my appreciation for someone's help. Just because it doesn't suit you doesn't mean others will find it an 'over complicated pay process'.

So yes you did sound rude, and I'm offended but I'm not someone to hold grudges / drag things out so thanks for the post and I hope we both can get along with our differences of opinion :-)

Back to the issue at hand, thanx 4 the post Rhubarb. Yes flux does allow that but I assumed FTP was quicker as it's a protocol specifically designed for that process. I'm downloading via HTTP now and it's real slow!

Yes I see your point about it wont benefit others. I do always try to finish off my threads with the solution for others who may need it. Maybe it would be worth copying the convo and posting it here.

FTP is fine, it's sFTP and setting a v.limited user to have the default directory of the torrentflux user. That's where I'm stumped!

I'm going to go and try the suggestion in my other thread, the chap there has posted a promising response.

Thanx 4 the help guys,

All the best,
Gareth
