No there isn't.
But WarTourist from Epic dropped by Phoronix forums recently and told us they are still working on it.

yea it is quite irritating. The two versions of this game I would play still have yet to come out. The 360 version has been having problems seeing a release due to M$ wanting to charge for content download and not allow user created content. And the linux version is still "in development". I know we will get it eventually, but it has been awhile. Hell I would be happy with just a demo to see how it runs on my linux lappy.

UT3 is dead. It doesn't even matter if it comes out anymore. Ironically, UT2004 is still kind of alive (in comparison).
I wish I could return UT3 ....

Yeah War has been on the Bu forums aswell but not to talk about linux. My advice is wait or dual boot with windows or buy a ps3 as xbox probably wont be having mod support.

How so? I have UT2004 and I'm only seeing limited signs of life... mod and mutator development seems to have stopped completely... and several years ago at that... where-as I saw a UT3 mod the other day that I desperately wanted to play which had only just recently been released... or updated... or something. Too bad I don't have UT3. (and wouln't... till the Linux version comes out... though I would buy a 360 version for my cousin)

360 Version is out July 15th (US), and will contain some new maps, modes, etc.
Epic has pretty much given up on the whole user generated content thing with Microsoft-there really isn't anything to show right now to warrant fighting that battle.
I heard the Linux installer was stalled because of proprietary stuff in the game, particulary with the Gamespy code. Might be wrong on that.

UT2004 TAM is still partially alive and there are still some servers with LIFE on them. UT3 is Dead Dead Dead. Competitive UT3 is dead. Competitive UT3 on TWL also requires Windows only cheat protection anyway.
You want to see how dead it is? Goto http://www.teamwarfare.com/ladderlist.asp
Click "Unreal Tournament 3". Click on any ladder. Those "Open" slots are the sound of everyone NOT playing the game anymore.

UT2004 has *TWICE* the amount of players and that's not counting the non-windows players.
If you want to play UT3 just play the free Windows demo. There's nothing you're missing worthwhile that isn't in the demo.

ETQW wasn't doing so well either, but after they released the Linux client, they even climbed back into the top 10 best selling games in the US.
Makes one wonder if linux has more effect than it seems.

I bought UT3 last year to play on Linux. It isn't dead to me yet. If a Linux client doesn't come out, all future Epic games and those I find out that use the UT engine will not earn any of my dollars.

Almost makes you wonder why the UT team doesn't give Linux a bit more favor, I still play the hell outta 2k4, I even quit googling the UT3 for linux, I figured if they wanted my money they'd have built it by now. QW is excellent anyway.

Well you got me takeing a look too, lol
I dont see it either.
Really I have to agree with a couple other folks, UT2004 is alive and well. I still play and find plenty of compotition on servers. As for UT3 I was really disapoited, I have both and still opt to play 2004. I cant find any good mods for UT3 but brother if you cant find a mod you like for 2004 you must not be looking lol. In 04 I can have bart simson shooting badgers on the moon of yondor! In unreal 3 its stagnent same o same o.
So why did i look when you said, "is it there'" I was thinking maybe once some linux folks get there hands on it that the mods would start flowing like milk and honey. Lets see if time shows the same experience, release linux version,BOOM, mods and rebirth of UT3! hope springs eternal

So UT3 even though it's a brand new game is dead already?

According to a poll on the community frontpage, 22 % (!!) of all ET:QW players plays the linux version, and that percentage is with all the console players included. Of the pc ET:QW players, the linux users were about 35 - 40 %!!
So yes, linux has a lot of effect on ET:QW :guitar:

It came out last year on PS3 and PC. That's far from brand new. The Linux client won't help UT3 either, the biggest complaint about the game from Windows users is the "console-like" UI. Linux users will complain about that too. The game is full of fail on PC.
Epic have shunned the PC platform, it's time we shun Epic.
Also the ET:QW Linux client didn't get released almost a year after the Windows version was released. It certainly wasn't at the same time, but at least there was some cooperation. At least ET:QW is a good game, that's why it helped sales.

It certainly wasn't at the same time,
AFAIK the ET:QW linux client was released only two days after the windows version.

Not the same time though, is it? Releasing it only days after the Windows version helped. ET:QW Mac client updates aren't released quite so quickly though.
It's a hell of a lot closer compared to the UT3 Linux Client being released, considering how long ago the Windows version was released.

last I heard the linux client for UT3 was caught up in red tape. id figure it was more then likely one of the third party companies that provided support for some part of the game throwing a fit for silly reasons. i have no idea if that is true but if it is, shame on them for announcing something and not following thru and shame on whoever is holding it up.
im really more curious to see how well a "next gen" game (at least graphically) performs on a linux box then actually playing the damn game lol...there's always mods too...

PS3 has ugly rendering and no FSAA options and lacks a lot detail due to the 256 mb ram limitation of the PS3

I would say that this is because of the more demanding system specs and the fact that the game is somewhat new. However, those xfire stats are damning. The Xfire rank as of this post is 96, but it fell dramatically from a high of #19 on October 13th of last year. And it says that it dropped from #94 yesterday. I will definitely agree with you here, it does seem like people are loosing interest. Although I am still going to be playing the linux version when it comes out.

We're all going to play the linux version no matter how crappy the game is since we're starving for games :lolflag:

I could tell you where a couple of really good UT3 servers with great mods are but there is no one playing them. Epic sucks and I am still pissed at them for pandering to the gay console crowed. UT3 on PS3, Xbox, are you Fin kidding me?
I am still waiting to load linux on my box for the UT3 client.

"It soon will be a year since Unreal Tournament 3 was released for Windows and there is zero sign of when the client may arrive for Linux or even a beta release or demo version. Will it make it out this year?"
My guess is that it may be as long as the end of next year due to the fact that they are still trying to work out the bugs in the winBlows PC version of the game. Add to this the fact that they are totally committed to the console gamer, clear from extreme lack of support, and the release of a Linux port looks even less likely any time soon. All development efforts went to the Xbox after the initial release of the PC game. If past performance is any indication then I wouldn't even hold my breath that they will pull off a real and effective fix for the PC version much before this time next year.
It must be hard to be one Epic programmer put on patching UT3 when just last semester you were graduating from ITT tech's game development program.
Epic will never get my cash again for an alpha release product and certainly not until they deliver a Linux client and server first. My Sun V20z is just waiting to serve up the game, it ain't gonna happen on winBlows though.

Regarding ET:QW: The release dates are the same for Windows and Linux for patches.
That is as soon as a Windows patch is released a Linux one comes with it :)
This is probably because they've noticed the massive Linux support.
