The title might be slightly misleading, but I would consider this a "crash."

Sometimes, when I am playing an FPS in fullscreen, the screen will sometimes randomly shrink down to a window, and neither my mouse or keyboard responses will do anything to what's on the screen. Pressing alt+tab will do nothing, and I end up either having to do a hard reset or pressing ctrl+alt+backspace. I'm serious when I say this: when this happens, I can do absolutely nothing.

So far, this has happened in OpenArena, Sauerbraten, and Tremulous. It seems to happen more often in Tremulous...

Also, for some reason, it won't happen when I'm playing a game like Frets on Fire, ManiaDrive, Glest, Pingus, Wesnoth, Lincity-NG, Warzone 2100, or any of the games that came preinstalled with Ubuntu. If it involves the terminal, please post the code that I need. Thanks everyone!

EDIT: It also shrinks down when playing Frets on Fire and Warzone 2100, but the game does not ignore my commands.

You just have to disable compiz (desktop effects), they are horribly unstable with games and cause the problems you are describing.

Go to system -> preferences -> appearance

Go to the tab "Visual Effects", and select none.

Everything should work fine after that

That seems to have done it. Thanks!
