Hi Everyone!

Here is my situation. I have a desktop PC with Ubuntu 8.04 and ADSL internet. And there's a laptop, Ubuntu as well. I want it to use the desktop's internet connection. These two machines are supposed to connect to each other through bluetooth. Is there a way to make that happen? :)

Thanks in advance!

I don't really get it. Isn't it supposed to be some place where we DON'T laugh like morons and we DO help?... Gosh, was the question really that strange or asked in a lame manner?

Don't be angry with me, pal. But if you want to share your internet connectivity I would not use bluetooth due to low distance and bandwidth. Share it over powerline, cable LAN or WLAN.

I suppose its possible - I browse the web on my mobile phone over my broadband connection ( ~ 30 kB/s ). Since I am a gentoo user my help on ubuntu is limited - yet as far as I know the latest Ubuntu comes with bluez 3.x which is almost useless to do PAN :

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez-utils/+bug/172823

You still may want to try blueman ( http://blu^eman.tuxfamily.org ) which seems to reenable the PAN functionality - theres an Ubuntu package repository for it as well far as I know.

The maximum theoratical bandwidth seems to be 2,1 Mbit/s for EDR 2.x ( see wikipedia ).

Edit : Max possible bandwidth ( ~250 kB/s ) is really slow so indeed you should go for one of the mentioned alternatives !

Dude, go out and buy a wireless router and be done with it.

Try to find a Linksys model, most of the popular ones are less than $50
