Hi all,

I was so glad to come across this forum! I'm very impressed to see an Ubuntu Gaming forum!

Anyway so yesterday I decided to install Ubuntu in a separate partition with the intention (as always with a new distro) to switch over completely and remove myself from the Windows world. In order for me to do that and still be happy I needed to satisfy two conditions:

if self.Ubuntu.Cedega(WoW) == 1
if self.Ubuntu.TVTuner == 1
then Morkalin.Ubuntu.Forever = 1

The only Windows-based game I play at the moment is WoW and I use my TV tuner primarily for playing my XBox and Gamecube. So my TV tuner is working (first time I've ever managed to in Linux yet - bravo Ubuntu!) and I also subscribed to Transgaming and got the latest Cedega as of yesterday.

Installation of WoW went as per the Wiki, error and all, and started to run fine. Looked good including portal and flame animations at the logon screen. Logged on OK and then it did the first-time "Downloading Update" thing and proceeded to exit and attempt to load the bit torrent patcher. The screen briefly flashed on but then I got an Unhandled Exception according to the terminal window. No matter what I set in the profile settings for Cedega nothing worked. Googling didn't help either. I even tried manually using Cedega on the command-line to launch WoW.exe and the patcher to no avail.

I also tried previous versions of Cedega down to version 4.0.

Any suggestions? Has anyone come across this before? If I can get this one sorted then I'm blowing Windows away for good!

Cheers,
Morkalin

Try to download and install the patch manually (google for it).

Thanks for the reply - I will try that now. I am downloading the 1.8.0 patch. I couldn't find a full download for 1.8.1 but I'm hoping that this might at least fix the major issues... I will let you know how it goes...

Could you point me to the wiki web site you used? I'm also interested in getting rid of my Windows partition and play WoW on Linux.

Thanks.

I downloaded the patch and installed it manually and it worked! But WoW doesn't work properly though because you can't select anything in the environment. This basically makes it useless. I believe it is a known issue and I'm busy googling for a fix.

As for the Cedega wiki, just do a google search for the URL - I don't know it off-hand.
