I have been trying to get gnome commander to run (8.04)

When trying from a terminal this is what comes back. If I prefix with sudo it will run. Can someone point me in the direction of a fix?

(gnome-commander:5711): Gtk-WARNING **: unable to find signal handler for object(GnomeCmdDir:0x8344510) with func(0x80912f0) and data(0x821c738)

Thanks

Try using gksudo.
How did you install it?
If the above fails, then try and re-install from add/remove or from synaptic package manager
