I would like to create passworded archives like I used to do in old Winrar. I have apparently already installed 7zip but that does not seem to help, and I don't see it in any menus or anything.

I can create archives, I can open them, but I cannot seem to make one with the option of adding a password.

So does zip.

Be aware that archives are variable in terms of security, most people advise you encrypt the archive.

so you have a *.tar.gz for example, you can encrypt that with gpg or place it in an encrypted partition or file (LUKS or truecrypt).

For the zip terminal compression utility, use the -e switch to encrypt/password-protect your archive.
