Quick question. Sometimes when i have firefox open, i can see my CPU useage go through the roof, even when i am doing nothing.

So, say i have logged into facebook, and that is the only page i have open, and i leave it there for a while. Nothing else is running, you'd think it would just idle around 3%. I find sometimes its at 100% capacity.

I type top in the terminal, and it says firefox is running at 80-90% of the CPU. Why would this be, i'm not even using it.

OK, i have worked out it is only Flash on any browser i have, not firefox.

Is there another flash i can install where this problem doesn't happen?

Heheh, you are certainly not the first person to ask.

The standard Flash player -- the one put out by Adobe -- is the best, insofar as its compatible with the most Flash content on the web. The Gnash project is attempting to create an open-source alternative, and it does a good job, but it's not 100% compatible with everything on the web yet (far from it).

Anyway, go ahead and give both the Gnash plugin as well as the swfdec-mozilla plugin a try. You may find that one or both of them suit your purposes, but if you visit a lot of Flash sites, you will most likely need the Adobe one.

I installed flash player 10 beta from this link :- http://linuxondesktop.blogspot.com/2008/05/installing-adobe-flash-player-10-beta.html

Now the same websites taht made my spu go to 100% doing othign doesn't happen anymore.

I have heard its buggy and choppy, but so far so good. luckily the article tells me how to revert back to the flash 9 if i have trouble.
