Hi, I am thinking of getting old computers revamping them a little, preinstalling Ubuntu and then selling them on, so far i cant find anywhere that does it and it maybe succeed as a local project. Do you think this is a good idea? Any suggestions?

Thanks
Dan

Ubuntu, no. Other Linux distros, yes. There are a ton of posts regarding old computers and Linux in Other OS talk.

All depends on your business model, I suppose. Out here in the Philippines, there are several sellers of refurbished computers, usually low-end models. They sell for around $150 to $250 or so. Not such a good deal considering that entry level laptops go for $300 to $350 now.

On the technical side, I'm running a stripped down version of Ubuntu 8.04 with OpenBox (http://ubuntuliving.blogspot.com/2008/06/minimalist-ubuntu.html) and it works pretty fast on an old machine.

For a premade version of what the AP is running, try Crunchbang Linux.
