View Full Version : [ubuntu] Windows can't resolve Ubuntu system, but Macs and other Linux systems can.

Hi All,

I'm having a minor problem here. For whatever reason, the windows machines on one of my networks can't resolve my Ubuntu64 machine. The can see it via IP and they can access the machines Webmin pages, etc. They just can't access it via it's domain name.

Now, to be fair, there isn't an explicit DNS server (department of redundancy department) on the network, just a regular old D-Link router. All other Macs and Linux boxes on the network can resolve one another fine via their domain names, but not a single one of the Windows machines will.

However, on a completely separate network, I have a few Ubuntu32 systems that get resolved just fine by everything.

What is the obvious thing that I'm missing? Is it perhaps an IPV6 vs V4 issue? Doubtful I know, but I'm open to pretty much anything at this point.
