View Full Version : [ubuntu] Headphones jack on soundcard is physically broken--can I use different jack?

I just switched to Ubuntu yesterday, however I have a soundcard issue. The headphones jack on the card doesn't function properly, the sound is scratchy and tinny. It's a physical problem--it happened on Windows, too. However, I had a program in Windows that allowed me to plug my headphones into the microphone jack and the program changed the setting so they would work as if the headphones were plugged into a functional headphone jack. Is there any way to do this with Ubuntu?

Also, I apologize if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find anything that solved my problem via google or forum search. (To be honest I didn't really know how to succinctly state my problem so that may have been an issue in searching).

I'm just curious. What was the windows application that provided the functionality?

I actually can't recall. It came with my laptop when I unboxed it. My apologies.

Well, in that case, I would say the functionality was laptop specific. It would be hard to find a similar app which works under linux. But that is just my opinion.

Someone's mic input jack was broken and he managed to use the headphone jack instead. I don't remeber the commands - this was in a thread a couple of months ago. May be the change you want can also be achieved. Try to find that thread. I wish I had saved it.
