Hello,
New to the forum so if I should have posted this somewhere else I apologize. I am new to Linux/Ubuntu but have become intrigued with it and would like to try it out on a new laptop (my wife won't let me create a dual-boot on our macbook). I am thinking of buying an inexpensive laptop for this purpose (I saw a Compaq for 399.99 at Best Buy that is tempting); however from what I can tell not every laptop works the same with Ubuntu. I have considered getting a Dell 1525N pre-loaded with Ubuntu, but it tends to be more expensive than other entry level laptops I can find. Through people's experience with Ubuntu on laptops does there seem to be certain manufactures that work better than others as far as installation, wireless, etc? Anyway, I like what Ubuntu/Linux represent and I am excited to try it out for myself. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I bought a Toshiba A205-S5859 for $599 at CC and it works with hardy OOB including wireless.

I would look at one of the lower end system76 laptops like the gazelle.
